What Is a Buying Agent?

A buying agent is a company based in China that acts as an intermediary. You tell them what you want to buy and from which seller, they purchase it on your behalf using Chinese payment methods, receive the item at their warehouse, photograph it for your inspection (QC photos), and then ship it internationally when you're ready. You never interact directly with the Chinese seller — everything goes through the agent.

Step 1 — Choose an Agent

Step 2 — Find What You Want to Buy

Products are sold by individual sellers on Weidian (most popular for rep community), Taobao (larger marketplace), and 1688 (wholesale). You need a product link — the URL of the specific item from a specific seller.

Always verify a seller before ordering. Check community posts from the last 60 days for any reports on the specific seller or batch. A 5-minute search before ordering prevents most quality problems.

Step 3 — Place the Order

Create an account on your chosen agent's website
Fund your account — top up via card, PayPal, or (on some agents) crypto. Top up only what you need for your current order
Paste the product link into the agent's search/order field. If the link is formatted for a different agent, use the rep link converter first
Confirm product details — the agent system reads the seller page and shows you the item. Verify the correct colour, size, and quantity
Submit the order — the agent purchases from the seller on your behalf

For your first order: Order a single, low-cost item (under ¥200 / $30). This lets you learn the process without significant risk. Verify everything works before ordering a large haul.

Step 4 — Wait for Warehouse Arrival

The item ships from the seller to the agent's warehouse. This typically takes 3–7 days for Weidian sellers. You'll receive a notification when it arrives. The agent then photographs it (QC photos) — usually within 24–48 hours of arrival.

Step 5 — Review QC Photos

This is the most important step. QC photos are your only chance to inspect the item before international shipping. Check:

Is this the correct item, colour, and size you ordered?
Are logos and branding accurate compared to reference photos?
Is the construction quality acceptable — no obvious defects?
For sneakers: are both shoes symmetrical?
